5 Easy Steps

1. Getting Started

Have you ever dreamt of writing a book about your life - or any other subject - to give to your family and friends, or maybe you want to reach a wider audience?

Perhaps you have already written your book and now you want it published? Or maybe you just have an idea for a book at this stage? We can even carry out interviews with you or others and write your book for you.

We are here to help you realise your dream.

We start with an initial, FREE, consultation to guide you to the next stage. If you can come for a meeting at our office at Bondi Beach, Sydney, that’s great.  But if you live too far away, we can have a chat on the phone and by email.  Just CONTACT us and we will arrange a time to call.

Once you have your typescript ready we will help you all the way to publication - and after, too, if you wish.

2. What Will Your Book Look Like?

Our Basic Package starts with a joint decision on what you want your book to look like.

• What typeface would you prefer?
• Do you want to illustrate your book with photographs or artwork? 
• What style of cover do you want?
• Is your book just for family and friends, or do you envisage a wider audience?

We will advise you on these matters and help you choose what is right for you.

 3. Typesetting

Once these things are decided on, we then typeset your text, using one of our Svengali Press templates designed to meet all printers’ requirements.

We then send the proof back to you to check.  Any errors we might have made are then corrected, free of charge.  But if you want to change your text, we charge a small fee.

4. Cover Design

Once we receive a final proof-copy, we then design the cover, following your guidelines, and ensuring the design complies with printers’ requirement for spine size, colour, etc.

We purchase an ISBN number.  ISBN stands for International Standard Book Number. It is a 13-digit number that\'s used as a unique identifier for books. ISBN is used internationally. All books published in Australia must carry an ISBN.  If your book is to be sold, it should also carry a barcode which is attached to your ISBN.

Once a brief description of your book, plus your bio and photo, are placed on the back cover, and you are happy with the front cover, your book is ready to go to the printer.

5. Printing

How many copies do you want to print?  We will provide you with comparative printing costs based on the number of pages in your book, the number of illustrations (if any); and the number of copies you want printed.

Printing drops in cost per copy, the more copies you want printed.

To give you a rough guide, a book of xxx pages with no colour printing, just black type, would cost you xxxx for 30 copies, or xxx per copy. If you were to sell your book for, say, $20.00 a copy you would make a profit of around xxx.

Usually we can have your book printed within a week of final delivery to us.

If your book is aimed to reach a wider audience, you now need to move on to our Stage 2 – EXTRA package.

COST

To have your book published to this stage costs $1,000 for typesetting and $400 for cover-design, plus the cost of printing.

If you would like us to carry out interviews and write your book, the cost will depend on how much work is involved. So for this service, Cost to be Advised.

Distribution

Your text is now typeset, the cover designed, and book printed. You now have a book in your hands.

What to do next?

Distribution

If you want your book to reach a wider audience than just family and friends, we will send it to our distributor whose reps will take it to bookshops around Australia and arrange orders.

Our distributor can also arrange for your book to be transformed into an e-book for Amazon, Kobe, Barnes & Noble and ITunes. It will also be available for Print-on-Demand (POD) via a wide network of printers both in Australia and overseas.

Library Deposit

Copies of your book will be sent for deposit in your State library and the Australian National Library (this is a requirement by law).

Newspaper Reviewers

We will also send copies of your book to newspapers for possible review.

Marketing

It’s time to get cracking marketing your book pro-actively.

Your book is now in both printed and e-book format, and has been distributed Australia-wide (as well as worldwide) and is advertised online via Amazon, Kobe, Barnes & Noble and ITunes. As well as being featured online, it will also be available overseas as Print-on-Demand (POD).

Book Launch

You might like us to organise a book launch either at a bookshop of privately, depend-ing on the nature of your book.

You provide us with a list of friends, family, and others whom you think would bbe interested in your book and perhaps keen to buy a copy. We add names to the list of people we think might also be interested in your book.

The author pays for wine and nibbles at the launch.  If a bookshop holds the launch it is likely to take a percentage of al sales at the launch (usually around 14%). 

At a private launch, the author pays for wine and nibbles, and possibly the cost of hiring a venue, but receives 100% of all sales.

Media Release

If your book has a suitable news angle, we will send out a Media release about it to newspapers, radio and TV, mentioning that you would be available for possible interview.

Featured On Svengali Website

Your book will be featured on the Svengali Press website, and if you hold a book launch, we will also feature photos of the launch on our site.

A Dedicated Website For Your Book

We can also design a website for your book. We arrange for a Domain Name and hosting of your site. This means your book will be featured by Google and other Search Engines.  We specialise in Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) to maximise the number of visitors to your site.

Media And Promotion

Your book has now been marketed widely.  If it is likely to attract a wide readership, we will include it in our regular advertisement in publications such as The Sydney Morning Herald’s Spectrum section or The Australian’s Revue section.

Podcast

We can suggest we make an Audio, Talking Book, podcast version of your book, either with you or a professional reading it.

Perhaps the content of your book lends itself to a video version. Or maybe you would like a video made of your book launch. We can advise you on this.

And in the future, we could make a hologram version of your book or  of you reading you book.  But that can’t happen just yet!
