This is an entertaining romp through GEOFFREY DOBBIN’S life at sea and on land.
Geoff was born in Dubbo, NSW, and went to live in Sydney with his mother after the death of his father. He grew up on Sydney's North Shore and went to Shore school. At the age of 15 he attempted to run away from school to join the crew of a four-masted schooner berthed in Sydney Harbour. This attempt failed but a year later he joined the merchant navy and worked his way up through the ranks on trading vessels in the Pacific. Later he joined P&O and became a senior officer, encountering a full ship's complement of incidents , some amusing, some life-threatening. He finally left ocean life for civvie street, returning to Sydney where he worked for the government and then private enterprise. He is now retired and lives in Sydney.
